Delta Dental of Arizona and Arizona Diamondbacks Encouraging Healthy Kids

No Chew Crew Offers Complimentary Tickets and Toothbrushes for Pledging No to Smokeless Tobacco

GLENDALE, Ariz. (March 28, 2016) - More than 1 of every 100 U.S. youth between the ages of 12-17 are current users of smokeless tobacco and other tobacco products. Smokeless tobacco is a primary cause of mouth cancer, gum disease and tooth decay and tooth loss. Smokeless tobacco also leads to nicotine addiction. We don’t get three strikes when it comes to our teeth, so what better way for the state’s leading dental carrier to get the word out about how to maintain a healthy smile than at a baseball game?

Delta Dental of Arizona kicks off its sixth season as the Arizona Diamondbacks’ No Chew Crew sponsor. The No Chew Crew is a unique club for young fans to increase awareness of the dangers of smokeless tobacco. Members of the No Chew Crew receive a complimentary kid's ticket to every Sunday home game and a free Delta Dental toothbrush!

Parents and their children can also attend the Sunday Slugger Show, a monthly 30-minute presentation featuring D. Baxter the Bobcat, Bobby Freeman and a D-backs player educating children about the dangers of smokeless tobacco and promoting good dental habits. The Sunday Slugger Show kicks off at 11:45 a.m. on April 24 at Baxter’s Den in the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Sandlot.

“The behaviors and habits of a professional athlete can have a powerful influence on children,” said Sandi Perez, vice president of community benefit at Delta Dental of Arizona. “We capture that power in The Sunday Slugger Show by interviewing a player, educating the audience about the dangers of all forms of tobacco, encouraging kids to practice healthy habits and pledging to be tobacco-free.”

No Chew Crew membership is free for children up to 15 years old. A parent must be 18 years or older to register their child for the No Chew Crew.
