Teeth on the Go is a fun, innovative program designed to teach children the importance of taking good care of his or her teeth. Based on nationwide teaching requirements, the program focuses on three main points about oral healthcare:
(1) the importance of teeth to overall health,
(2) the impact of good nutrition on teeth, and
(3) proper oral hygiene and tooth brushing techniques.
The week-long lesson plan targets children ages 5 to 9 and incorporates a variety of visual and audio learning aides, including a video, audiocassette tape, books, and a larger-than-life-size model of teeth. Books include:
- The Tooth Book by Theo LeSieg
- Andrew’s Loose Tooth by Robert Munsch
- Just Going to the Dentist by Mercer Mayer
- The Edible Pyramid: Good Eating Everyday by Loren Leedy.
To help children practice good oral health habits, a daily tooth brushing chart is included as a handout.
